Well known for using a myriad of complex flavours, this Chettinad spice mix certainly packs a punch. Due to the region's close proximity to the sea, the cuisine traditionally stars seafood, chicken or vegetables as the main component, with rice based accompaniments (rice, dosas, uppams, idiyappams,etc). This mix is quite spicy, rating a 7/10 on the Herbie's heat scale, and contains fennel seeds, cumin seeds, black peppercorns, coriander seeds, medium heat chilli, Sri Lankan cinnamon, dagar phool (black stone flower), and curry leaves. Delicious!
