This Shun 1000/6000 Whetstone has been designed to keep your blades razor sharp: the 1000 grit side will take off any minor bumps or bruises, and the 6000 grit takes it to impossibly sharp places. We would recommend other stones for more damaged blades - enquire in store! 

While they are spelt differently, a whetstone does need to be wet to be used. This isn't how the stone got its name, however; "to whet" something is to sharpen it.

There you go. 

This doesn't stop the stone from needing to be wet however - the whetstone needs to be thoroughly soaked (a wholly wet whetstone).
