Description
Saffron is a spice derived from the stamens of the flower Crocus Sativus. The flower blooms for only one week a year, and each individual flower produces three stamens. These are then picked by hand and dried. All in all, it's a long and laborious process- about 150 flowers are required for 1g of Saffron!
Gamila at Beechworth's Saffron is grown on a sunny, north facing slope just outside of the town of Beechworth in the Victorian high country. After picking in Autumn, it's aged for 6 months and then sealed in air-tight sachets, ensuring that premium quality saffron is available in the home kitchen. Each sachet contains 6-9 strands - enough for a dish to feed approximately four. This product contains 10 sachets, so thats 60 to 90 strands!
