Traditional South Indian Vegetarian

Cook: Sue Kumar

Date and time:
Thursday June 6, 2024 6.00 APM - 9.00 PM AEST

Location:
The Hunter's Pantry
Junction Fair Shopping Centre
200 Union Street The Junction, NSW 2291

Taught at the apron strings of her mother-in-law, Sue Kumar’s passion for exotic Indian flavour extended beyond her dashing new husband!

It was the 80’s and whilst Newcastle (and the rest of Australia) cooked sausages with sultanas and Keens powder and called it a ‘curry’ – Sue Kumar was already blazing a trail of flavour about town, challenging those sweet, Anglicised options with earthy, spice forward twang.

40 years on and Sue’s skill and savvy around all things zest and wallop has only grown.

Indeed Sue has been cooking traditional South Indian food since she was shown by Sharada Shankar – guided through flavour, method and spice at the hands of a master – but her repertoire and command of the cuisine, along with her penchant for entertaining has made her prowess in the kitchen pretty epic.

This class is our most successful and longest running for a reason. The proof is in the… poriyal.

The Menu

  • Everyday Dahl
  • Potato Poriyal
  • Cauliflower and Pea Gobi
  • Bean and coconut Poriyal
  • Sambar
  • Papadams
  • Rice
  • Pachadi

This class is vegetarian, but can easily be adapted for a vegans. It is also GF - but please if you’re booking to send us a note to let us know of your dietary requirements. If you have any other requirements please contact us before booking your ticket.
